YOUNIQUE STAYS TOP 5 LIST: BICHENO RESTAURANTS
1. Lobster Shack Tasmania
Located on The Gulch overlooking Governor Island, this is waterfront dining East Coast Tasmania style! With jaw dropping views and open daily from 11am - 7pm, Lobster Shack is a casual seafood shack with a menu consisting of Tasmanian rock lobster, fish and chips, seafood platters, seafood chowder, oysters and of course the famous Bicheno lobster roll. Fully licensed, you can eat your premium, local seafood on the waterfront deck, inside or upstairs and enjoy breathtaking views. You may even see an Australian fur seal, dolphin, orca, sea eagle or migrating whale. You can also order takeaway meals, a cold seafood platter or take home fresh seafood to prepare at your holiday house. Complete your meal with a Van Diemens Land ice cream and perhaps a stroll along the foreshore trail to the nearby Bicheno Blowhole.
Local tip: If the deck is crowded, pop upstairs to find more tables with the same great view!
2. Sealife Restaurant Bicheno
Still on the seafood theme, Sealife is another Bicheno restaurant offering waterfront dining. On the absolute waterfront overlooking Waubs Bay, Sealife is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner from Thursday - Monday. The menu consists of seafood, meat and vegetarian options and has something for everyone including scallops in half shell, mussels, beautifully prepared local fish, pork, chicken, garlic prawns and much more. With an expansive wine, beer and cider list, Sealife is a great place to enjoy a beautiful meal while enjoying one of the best waterfront dining views in Australia.
Local tip: Arrive at 5pm and have a pre-dinner drink out on the terrace to enjoy the sparkling blue waters of Waubs Bay before your meal.
3. Le Coq Bicheno
The newest kid on the block, Le Coq brings a little taste of France to Bicheno! In the main street and open for dinner and lunch on select days, Le Coq brings a breath of fresh air to Bicheno dining with its French and Mediterranean inspired menu using premium local ingredients. Think house made bread with pâté (or, the house made vegemite butter!), duck a lórange, beautiful Cape Grim steaks, seafood and vegetarian options. At the time of writing, the restaurant is BYO (pick up a local bottle from The Farm Shed East Coast Wine Centre before you arrive) but plans are in place to offer a wine menu in the future.
Local Tip: Save room for dessert here at Le Coq, you won’t be disappointed!
4. Food and Brew Bicheno
A family favourite, Food and Brew is known for its woodfired pizzas and tasty burgers with a selection of more hearty meals on the menu too. With several local beers on tap and a nice selection of local wines, Food and Brew is a relaxed family-friendly location for a bite to eat. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (on select days) and also offering takeaway, Food and Brew is a great choice for a meal out in Bicheno.
Local Tip: Food and Brew is right next door to Bicheno Penguin Tours so book your table before or after your tour for a seamless night out.
5. Governors Bicheno
You may have visited Governors café over the years but the team at Gov’s have recently reinvented the space as a much-loved Bicheno burger bar. Serving a great selection of burgers with all the extra sauces and sides including very good hand cut chips, you don’t want to miss a casual night out here while on your next holiday. Drinks include local beers, wine and even an aperol spritz.
Local tip: Come on a Friday night and sit outside for a true taste of the Bicheno local lifestyle.
